Who we are

Unrestricted Airspace is an independent aviation policy and advocacy initiative founded to confront the growing disconnect between regulation, safety, and operational reality in American aviation.

For decades, aviation has been shaped less by pilots, operators, mechanics, and engineers — and more by bureaucracy, insurance interests, and risk-averse political actors with little or no real-world experience. The result is a system that discourages transparency, suppresses innovation, and steadily pushes general aviation toward extinction.

Unrestricted Airspace exists to push back.

This initiative is built by aviation professionals with real-world experience across general aviation, commercial operations, military service, and aviation business. We focus on the issues others avoid: regulatory overreach, selective enforcement, medical policy failures, insurance-driven standards, and the erosion of access for small operators and rural communities.

Unrestricted Airspace works directly with legislators to push its core policy priorities and to advocate forcefully for its clients and the aviation community.

Our work is grounded in clear principles:

  • Medical decisions should be made between pilots and their primary care doctors — not the Federal Aviation Administration.

  • Aviation regulations must be written in plain language, without reliance on legal interpretations, advisory circulars, or informal guidance.

  • Pilots need real, achievable pathways from commercial certification to ATP based on meaningful operational experience, not arbitrary hour inflation.

  • Aviation insurance companies should not function as unelected regulators and warrant antitrust scrutiny where they dictate pilot minimums or operational standards.

  • FAA oversight should be performed by active or recently active pilots and licensed mechanics, supported by strict deconfliction rules and strong anti-corruption safeguards.

  • Small operators need a viable future through a Part 135 “Lite” framework scaled to operational risk rather than airline-level bureaucracy.

We do not answer to trade groups, political parties, insurers, or manufacturers. Our work is funded independently and guided by a simple principle: aviation policy should be driven by facts, competence, and accountability — not fear, convenience, or institutional inertia.

This is not performative advocacy. Unrestricted Airspace exists to challenge systems that have drifted from their original mission and to force difficult conversations into public view — where policymakers, regulators, and the industry itself can no longer ignore them.

Aviation is critical infrastructure. When it fails, the consequences extend far beyond airports and airspace. Restoring trust, safety, and freedom in aviation requires direct confrontation with the structures that shape policy and enforcement today.

That work starts here.

If you are here early, it is because you recognize the problem — and understand that fixing it will not be comfortable, quiet, or approved.
